GPSG passes anti-harassment resolution calling for stronger University response following racist text campaign

Duke Graduate and Professional Student Government passed a resolution Tuesday calling on University administration to aid in the federal investigation of racist text messages recently received by several students and to impose consequences on any Duke-affiliated persons found in connection to the messages.

Carbon offsets: What Duke bought to get over two-thirds of the way to carbon neutrality

As of fiscal year 2022, Duke’s carbon emissions reductions since 2007 were measured at 43%. The University expected to reduce emissions by another 2% in advance of the 2024 carbon neutrality deadline, leaving 55% to be offset by redeeming carbon credits. However, emissions ended up rising 11.35%, requiring Duke to offset almost 69% of its 2007-level emissions with carbon credits.

Duke alumnus Stephen Miller named deputy chief of staff for policy in second Trump administration

A longtime adviser to Trump, Miller began working for the then-candidate as a speechwriter in his 2016 presidential campaign. He later became a senior adviser in Trump’s first presidential administration and was involved in many of his hardline immigration policies, most notably the 2018 move to separate thousands of immigrant families as a deterrence strategy.

Donald Trump elected 47th president of the United States

Trump’s victory — called by AP at 5:37 a.m. after Wisconsin brought the Republican candidate's electoral vote count to 277 — concluded a heated election cycle. The final result was released just over 11 hours after the first polls closed, in stark contrast to 2020’s presidential race, which took nearly four days to call.

Democrat Josh Stein elected governor of North Carolina

The Associated Press called the race at 8:50 p.m. As of 8:38 p.m., Stein had won 53.48% of the vote, according to the NCSBE. His opponent, Republican Mark Robinson had won 42.01%.
