‘Brings you back down to Earth’: Through Duke's ACE program, student-athletes make a difference across the world

ACE was born as a way to give athletes a summer international experience centered on civic engagement. David Rubenstein, Trinity '70, former chair of Duke’s Board of Trustees and a famous civic leader in his own right, stepped in with generous financial support. The Blue Devil athletic department also started putting a dollar from every regular-season home sporting event ticket toward the initiative. These efforts paid off when the program was officially announced in 2015, with the first batch of athletes going abroad in summer 2016.

No. 19 Duke women's lacrosse falls 12-11 in overtime thriller to No. 10 Johns Hopkins

In a nail-biting contest, No. 19 Duke lost to No. 10 Johns Hopkins in a 12-11 overtime defeat. Despite an eight-point performance from senior attacker Carly Bernstein, the Blue Devils were no match for the trio of Ashley Mackin, Ava Angello and Lacey Downey, who combined for 15 points on the day. 

Duke women's lacrosse scores 12 unanswered goals in 17-6 win against High Point

No. 25 Duke overcame a rocky first half to pull off a 17-6 victory against High Point Sunday, capping off a two-game homestand. Graduate student Callie Hem, sophomore Bella Goodwin and senior Carly Bernstein each had hat tricks on the day, while redshirt junior Kennedy Everson made five saves between the pipes.
