At its most fundamental, the rule of law is a core restraint on the exercise of governmental power. The rule of law requires that when the government affects the citizenry, it must act consistent with a set of preexisting rules put in place by democratically elected bodies accountable to the people.
We will be attending the event featuring former Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett at Duke this Wednesday because we believe that the only way these causes, as well as the imperative of peace, will be served is through meaningful dialogue, engagement and education.
Duke is allowing high-risk activities but then barring until January 18 the main reason students are here on campus – which is to engage in the very low-risk activity of attending in-person class. How does this make sense?
