Meeting new people usually starts the same way: after the hello, how are you and the what’s your name? people dive into slightly more personal questions such as, Where are you from? Where do you go to school? What are you studying?
So, here we are in 2019. We haphazardly make a list of goals we want to achieve: go to Wilson at least once this semester, eat Sprout occasionally, actually eat lunch with your friend who hasn’t seen you in six months because you’re consumed by caffeine, courses and the chaos of Duke.
You’ve probably read columns about it before, and you’ve most likely run into the debate at least one time while being at Duke: which students are “smarter”?
Picture this: your average first-year pre-med student. All shiny and bright because organic chemistry hasn’t broken their spirits yet.
Do we have good intentions? Yes. Are we eager to help? Of course. Are we actually helpful? Quite frankly, not always.
