Duke sent 15 wrestlers to compete at the Southern Scuffle this weekend in Chattanooga, Tenn. Wallace, a redshirt freshman, picked up the first ranked victories of his career, advancing to the finals after going undefeated on Saturday. Twenty-ninth-ranked heavyweight Connor Barket also advanced to compete on Sunday thanks to some impressive performances over the weekend.
The ability to rely on defense to do the heavy lifting on a night where the offense was not at its best is a strong indicator of future success. It goes to show that the Blue Devils can find a way to win even when their shots aren’t falling, a quality that is critical to making a deep run in March.
