Ways to celebrate Black History Month at Duke

The Chronicle has compiled a list of events on campus for Duke community members to commemorate this Black History Month.
The event, hosted by Chabad at Duke and the Provost’s Initiative on the Middle East, also featured remarks from Millet Ben Haim, who was saved by Davidian at the festival. Davidian and Ben Haim shared their stories to a full lecture hall with Duke students and members of the Durham Jewish community in attendance.
As administrators look to establish new climate objectives for 2050 during the 2024-25 academic year, students reflected on current campus successes in the climate space as well as areas for improvement.
Although the University said that these updates to the Community Standard will not interfere with free speech on campus, students expressed mixed opinions about the policy. Some view the change as a positive step towards safer and more organized events, while others are concerned about its ambiguity and potential to deter students from attending events.
The Harris-Walz and Trump-Vance campaigns continue to make appearances in North Carolina in the hopes of securing the state’s 16 electoral votes. As of Oct. 16, the 538 polling average has the race essentially even in North Carolina, with Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump leading Harris by just 0.5 points.
Pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian student groups held memorials on campus Monday, exactly one year after the Oct. 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel by militant group Hamas.
Duke increased the number of employees obligated to respond to reports of Title IX policy violations and adjusted aspects of the hearing process in response to updated federal regulations that took effect Aug. 1.
Both campaigns sent major figures to the state this week in an attempt to drum up public enthusiasm for their respective platforms while criticizing the agenda of their opponent.
"Not only am I not voting for Donald Trump, but I will be voting for Kamala Harris," Cheney said to a standing ovation in Page Auditorium.
The path to legalizing marijuana within the Qualla Boundary began in 2021 when the tribe, which is federally recognized and considered a sovereign nation, decriminalized the possession of marijuana.
