Duke wrestling falters in pair of dual meets, but earns 3 first-place finishes at Journeyman Collegiate Classic

Head coach Glen Lanham’s team showed resolve in the face of defeat, though, responding to a difficult Saturday by shining at the Journeymen Collegiate Classic Sunday. Wrestlers Connor Barket, SP O’Donnell and Peter Chacon all earned first-place finishes in their individual competitions, with numerous other wrestlers also finishing on the podium. 


Duke wrestling is entering the 13th season under head coach Glen Lanham.

Duke wrestling 2024-25 season preview

Last season was the first time during Lanham's tenure with the program that he did not send a wrestler to the NCAA tournament, a testament to both the challenges of the previous year and the high quality of Lanham’s coaching during his time in the Bull City. This season, it will be up to the wrestlers to show growth from last year and earn a trip to the tournament.


Jonah Niesenbaum — the only Duke wrestler to gain a victory at the NCAA Championships — is the biggest offseason departure for the Blue Devils.

The Blue Devils enter the 2023-2024 season as hungry underdogs with a chip on their shoulders. With a mixture of seasoned veterans and emerging young talent, the team will hope to bounce back after last season’s underwhelming performances this time around.
