Juniors Katelyn Cai and Tara Singh are running for DSG president, while junior Dylan Cawley is running for the executive vice president position.
Cawley stated that the biggest challenge facing DSG is the disconnect between the work it does and its impact on the student body. He aims to “address and meet [this challenge] head-on” as EVP to provide his peers with a clearer idea of the organization’s work.

Institutional transparency is a key priority for Pereda. If selected, she would push for Duke to be more open about how it plans to navigate threats to higher education, believing this is essential to prevent students from feeling at odds with administrators.
Beason considers his role as a father of a three-year-old and 10-month-old as his most informative experience, which he credits for shaping his “commitment to building a better future — not just for [his] children, but for next generations of Duke students and leaders” as a Young Trustee.
If selected as Young Trustee, Douglas hopes to focus on strengthening Duke’s relationship with Durham, a city she says has been deeply impacted by the University’s presence, but not always equitably served by it.
Valibia’s ultimate goal is to defend the “sanctity of higher education.” If selected as a Young Trustee, he intends to foster collaboration with leaders from other universities to combat ongoing restrictions on political action and diversity, equity and inclusion for institutions across the country.
