My first phone interview for the Chronicle was scheduled for 9 a.m. on a Friday morning. Taking pains not to wake my roommate barely a week into our living arrangement, I slipped out of my dorm and over to West Campus ahead of my first class.

The Carrack is an exhibition and event space in downtown Durham. In June 2011, founders Laura Ritchie and John Wendelbo created the space with the intention of revitalizing the Durham arts community by providing an exhibition and gathering space for local artists.

Takes on modern noir are so prevalent this decade that the entire genre is borderline rote. Masterfully done projects such as the TV version of “Fargo,” “Gone Baby Gone” and “Gone Girl” combine a sense of formal classicism, pulpy material and an attention to character detail that elevate themselves from a morass of lesser entities.

There are certain things that you can only pull off in anime. Imagine if you saw a live-action actor or actress attempt some cheesy romantic line or some impassioned speech exaggerated to epic proportions—the audience would have a hard time taking any of that seriously.

The Duke bubble is real

The Duke Bubble is definitely real. Whether we undergrads like to admit it or not, we are part of our own little world; with food points, gyms, arts events, gardens, and libraries all within walking distance, it would be relatively easy to get through an entire school year without ever stepping off of campus and into Durham.
