If Duke is as committed to diversity as its two most recent presidents have purported it to be, it should celebrate our fall in the U.S. News Rankings. Only then could its objections to Trump’s policy initiatives be thought of as ethical, and its claimed commitment to diversity be truly genuine.
Jenkins’ work provides a platform for anyone who once thought they were alone in that conversation, for anyone who felt bogged down by clouds of confusion and opposition.
Regardless of how much progress is being made in comparison to other schools across the country, there is still a need to focus on continuously creating new ways of supporting underrepresented students for their four years on campus.

U.S News & World Report released its annual list of the so called “Best Colleges” in the country last Monday night, and since then, the results have been circulating across campus. Much to the surprise of current Blue Devils and Alumni alike, the new 2018 rankings placed Duke at 9th best in the national universities category, one spot lower than last year’s score of 8th.
As our university, our state and our country rapidly hurtle through change and evolution, we on the Editorial Board seek to understand those changes and write opinions we believe will help others to understand and judge them too.
Even if there is a stigma that shouldn't exist around using these mental and emotional resources at Duke, the fact that they exist in the first place is a luxury in comparison to other places. If Duke decided to get rid of CAPS all of a sudden, there would be tremendous backlash from students, especially given the other amenities our tuition covers (like Duke's grass). I recognize that resources are much more accessible to Duke than Houston, while also acknowledging that both communities are both fantastic, loving, places that I call home.
Congress could attempt to close the individual loopholes that permit the practice, but a more appealing and enduring solution would be to craft a simplified, reformed tax system that encourages corporate investment in the United States, rather than sending companies fleeing from the country. As for the individual income tax, both Democrats and Republicans ought to set aside partisan debates on the appropriate levels of taxation for different income groups and condemn the sheer complexity of the tax system levied on individuals.
For those of us looking for the real thing, there must be a level of preparation for what to expect, other than being told that it will be "the time of our lives."

So, particularly as the American public searches for someone to blame for these consecutive, devastating events, be on the lookout for superficial analyses and unwarranted finger-pointing. Often, the way we frame science drives the narrative more than the science itself.
After careful consideration, I realized that by re-imagining my daily goal in a task-oriented manner I was able to regain my old enthusiasm and carry through to the end with vigor.
