A list of possible first-year dorm and West Campus quad pairings for Duke’s new QuadEx residential program were confirmed to The Chronicle by Mary Pat McMahon, vice provost and vice president for student affairs.
The next time you head to class on Davison Quad, there’s a good chance you’ll be greeted by an exhibit commemorating one of the first five Black undergraduates to attend Duke.
“Duke fails time and time again to ensure its students of color and minority students are institutionally included in all academic and social settings,” said junior Miriam Shams-Rainey, who emceed the event.
Many first met Ken Jeong when he jumped out of the trunk of a car to the utter horror of Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis. That became obvious as soon as Jeong took the podium and proudly proclaimed “Dr. Ken has come back home.”
“We taught ourselves how to cope in the midst of instability and how to create our own senses of closure. And that shared experience of overcoming personal difficulties brought another way that Duke has bonded us together.”
“It’s a small, dense stadium—that’s what makes it great. But that’s also not ideal in this situation,” said Associate Professor of Medicine Cameron Wolfe. “We’ve already been going back and reevaluating the ventilation system."
Brown will have the “top-down visibility” necessary to identify areas where the University can adapt and grow, building a stronger community.
