According to plans filed in December with the Durham County Planning Department, two buildings just outside the Brightleaf District — 800 and 806 West Main Street — will be removed and replaced by a seven-story retail and restaurant space with an attached parking garage.

The leaders featured on this year’s Chron15 list are organizations, student leaders and faculty who used their power for good as they helped make Duke a safer place, lent a listening ear and worked tirelessly to improve the Duke experience.
Chron15 hopes to celebrate the icons, leaders and pioneers that have been so instrumental in making the University a place we’ll be proud of in the future, but also those who have made Duke the place we know and love today.
The icons on this year’s Chron15 list are beloved by the University community. They are people and places that spread joy, knowledge and Blue Devil pride.
Submitted by readers and divided among three categories — icons, leaders and pioneers — our selections are all individuals or groups defining what it means to be a member of the Duke community in 2022 and 2023.
“[KAjok] really stemmed from our personal experiences,” said Sebin Jeon, Trinity ‘23, co-founder and former co-president of KAjok. “There [were] so many Korean Americans scattered across Duke’s campus … but [we didn’t have] the opportunity to actually engage with them about our Korean American identity.”
