From agriculture to art, the Duke Campus Farm lets students engage with the food they eat

Despite blustery winds and a cold drizzle, more than 20 volunteers showed up at the Duke Campus Farm’s community work day on Sunday to help its student crew seed parsley plants, harvest tomatoes and thin beets. The Duke Campus Farm, which was founded by Duke undergraduates in 2010, is a one-acre property worked by four staff members, 12 student crew members and many more community and student volunteers.

'Antiquated' DukeHub website getting modern update to address student concerns

For the past five years, students have complained about DukeHub, a website for Duke student curricular planning and scheduling, as being “old, antiquated and slow,” said sophomore Shrey Majmudar, senator for academic affairs, who is working on the DukeHub project. In an annual survey, Duke Student Government included a question about the student experience with DukeHub to gauge frustration with the site and determine upcoming projects.

Despite low Duke student debt, students have mixed feelings for financial aid

Duke was recently ranked third on the list of universities with the lowest student debt by US News & World Report, but several students expressed varying opinions with their financial aid experiences. “My wife and I worked hard and sacrificed greatly to pay down the loan debt she accumulated as a Duke undergraduate,” Gary Bennett wrote. “Duke’s financial support is considerably better today, but we administrators are focused on this issue because we appreciate the need to do more.”

Grassley formally questions Duke's academic freedom after dismissal of Evan Charney

Duke’s Sanford School of Public Policy drew some ire when it decided not to renew Professor Evan Charney’s contract and he had to stop teaching at the end of the Spring 2019 semester. Now it has also attracted the official attention of Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and the Senate Committee on Finance. Grassley recently penned an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal and sent a formal letter to President Vincent Price requesting answers about Charney’s case.
