Durham considers adding new sports commission

Many students already enjoy going to Durham Bulls games, but a new proposed sports commission could bring even more athletic events to the Bull City. The Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau, Durham Chamber of Commerce, Duke and North Carolina Central University have been working to form a Durham sports commission, which would try to bring more amateur sporting events and tournaments to Durham.


Through the Kenan Institute for Ethics, Duke has several programs for students to engage with refugees from around the world.

Global refugee crisis reaches Duke and Durham

Durham refugee agencies are encouraged by the Obama administration's decision to allow more refugees into the U.S. but are also pressing for more expansive measures.  President Barack Obama recently announced that the number of worldwide refugees accepted per year into the United States will total up to 100,000 in 2017—up from the current annual cap of 70,000.


Shaw University was one of the 22 North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities that signed the revised agreement guaranteeing transfer for individual courses.

N.C. colleges sign agreement to ease community college transfers

Presidents of North Carolina Community College System and North Carolina Independent Colleges and Universities (NCICU) recently signed a revised agreement, making transfer between two systems more efficient. The revised Independent Comprehensive Articulation Agreement (ICAA), signed in August.27, 2015, improves on the previous version by offering clearer information of which courses will transfer and be applied to the four-year degree, guarantee’s for individual course transfer and degree transfer and most importantly, earlier engagement of students in the transfer process. “The major difference between the new and the former agreement is the provision for pathways for specific majors.” explained Dr. A.
