Any season opener is fraught with anticipation and excitement as expectations are tested and athletes get a first taste of competition. Fortunately for the Blue Devil fencers, they were able to return to the strip in style.
After winning the ACC title in 2021 and earning 11 individual titles at the tournament to set a program record, Duke fell short of expectations in its last campaign despite an impressive regular season.
After one long weekend of competition, the Blue Devils finished off their regular season at the ACC Championships. And though Duke's finish wasn’t as high as the group hoped for, there were still some significant plays throughout the weekend that demonstrated the skill level on Duke's roster.
Hosting a myriad of programs at the Duke Meet at Card Gym throughout the weekend, the Blue Devils saw significant victories from both the men’s and women’s teams.
The No. 10 men competed against five teams with no losses on the day. The No. 12 women also had five victories against the six programs it competed with, though one loss.
The No. 10 men competed against No. 5 Penn State, No. 7 Penn, Haverford and No. 2 Columbia, while the No. 12 women battled No. 2 Columbia, No. 7 Penn State, No. 8 Temple and No. 10 Penn.
Nearly eight months have passed since Duke fans last saw the Blue Devils compete, but not much has changed with this squad, and they’re coming back even better.
