Students get first taste of West Union’s Devil’s Krafthouse

Devil’s Krafthouse, the first vendor to open in West Union, received many positive reviews from students after serving free samples at the Bryan Center plaza Tuesday afternoon. This event was the first of a series called "Taste of West Union," intended to pique student interest in the future venues of West Union, scheduled to partially open in February 2016. Operated by local Durham restaurant Geer Street Garden, Devil’s Krafthouse served make-your-own tacos with carnitas, grilled chicken and black beans alongside pico de gallo, sour cream and pickled carrots.

Vegetarian and vegan options continue to be a topic of discussion among students and Duke Dining staff as the West Union gets set to open fully next Fall.

On-campus vegetarian options under scrutiny amid dining changes

Approximately a year after the launch of Meatless Mondays, vegetarian students on Duke campus remain searching for improved dietary options. Duke Dining has pursued several initiatives to increase the availability of vegetarian and vegan food on campus, including Meatless Mondays in October—a celebration of National Vegetarian Month aimed to highlight the meat-free dishes around campus. In addition, the reopening of West Union also promises more options for meatless eaters on campus. The ongoing issue of lack of vegetarian options on campus, however, is still a major concern for Duke Dining.
