‘Into his own’: Ngongba’s career performance against Virginia shows his season-long development and potential

Ngongba spent only 11 minutes on the floor of the John Paul Jones Arena, but the freshman made the time count with a career-high eight points. Though his total barely dented an already-stuffed stat sheet — Flagg, Knueppel and Isaiah Evans all tallied 17 points, while Flagg grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds — Ngongba’s increasing confidence on the floor overshadowed the recaps. His recent development promises more exciting (if less-quantifiable) Blue Devil potential.

No. 3 Duke men's basketball coasts past Virginia 80-62, 3 Blue Devils finish with 17 points

No. 3 Duke downed Virginia 80-62. Though the Cavaliers kept pace with the Blue Devils through the first few minutes, Scheyer’s squad pulled away on three consecutive 3-pointers from Isaiah Evans and a dominant rebounding effort from Cooper Flagg. The Newport, Maine, native recorded a double-double in the first half alone just hours after receiving his record-tying 10th ACC Rookie of the Week honor.

Duke men's basketball shatters season offensive records in balanced performance against Stanford

Such was the case for Duke in Saturday evening’s 106-70 dispatching of Stanford, as the Blue Devils posted one of the best offensive performances in the program’s storied history according to KenPom. While head coach Jon Scheyer’s contingent has consistently proved to be one of the best in the nation, the victory against the Cardinal was the first time everything clicked on the same night — and the result was a near-flawless offensive performance.
