Duke is withdrawing its proposal to rezone certain parcels of land near Central Campus following years of pushback from Durham residents in the surrounding area.
I will be the first to admit that I didn’t expect much from “Fallout” (2024). The television series, which premiered on Prime Video on April 10, 2024, faced a daunting task: distilling the titular video game franchise– eleven titles released over the course of twenty-two years – into a brief eight-episode adaptation.
Two Duke standouts, Jared McCain and Kyle Filipowski, will await their selections Wednesday and Thursday evening for the 2024 NBA draft in Brooklyn, N.Y. The Chronicle's sports staff is here with some predictions on the lottery picks and future destinations for the Blue Devils.
In equal parts due to Duke’s illustrious history with the sport, the coaching pedigree of head coach John Danowski and the small-but-top-heavy nature of college lacrosse, anything short of Championship Weekend is considered a failure in Durham. Even a national title game appearance in 2023 — and I share this opinion — was a bit disappointing given the manner of the loss. Unfortunately for the Blue Devils, their 2024 season ended two games earlier than that, with three more losses and four fewer ACC wins.
Over 36,000 North Carolinians died from drug overdoses between 2000 and 2022. Now, Durham County is in the early stages of curtailing the ongoing opioid crisis with funds from a new settlement.

The 2024 season was filled with high and low points for Duke women’s tennis, from its unexpected win against then-No. 14 NC State to a painful 4-0 ACC tournament loss against North Carolina.
Duke track and field’s 2024 outdoor season was a relatively successful one. For the third time in the last four seasons, the women’s team notched a first-place finish at the ACC Championships in Raleigh. Meanwhile, the men’s squad earned a seventh-place conference finish, two spots higher than in the 2023 season. In total, the Blue Devils fielded eight runners at the NCAA championships in Eugene, Ore., earning several All-America honors in the process.
Kimberly Hewitt was reappointed to a second five-year term as vice president for institutional equity and chief diversity officer, according to an announcement from President Vincent Price last week.
When I signed up for Jewish Life at Duke’s "Antisemitism 101 Training," I hoped for an impartial, educational approach to understanding and combating antisemitism on campus. However, from attending the training along with two fellow Duke staff members, I found that it instead indoctrinates participants into the political project of Zionism.
At various points of this season, Duke’s 2024 campaign could be described as a success, failure and just about everywhere in between. The Blue Devils started off hot, taking down then-No. 1 Wake Forest in their first ACC road series. However, they dropped their next two weekend series against Clemson and N.C. State, and rode through the middle of the season alternating between impressive showings and disappointments.
The late sunset of Carlsbad, Calif., marked the conclusion of a solid spring season for Duke men’s golf. Falling just short of team qualification to the NCAA Championship, it is easy to think this season was a disappointment compared to the year prior. However, Duke won its home tournament, the Rod Myers Invitational, and are no longer near the bottom of the ACC. Also, the Blue Devils continued by qualifying for their ninth straight NCAA Regional and 32nd postseason appearance in program history. Jamie Green and Duke have qualified in 14 out of 15 seasons in his tenure as head coach. It was a very solid season, but the Blue Devils did not get results when they mattered most.
The Blue Devils concluded their season with a 14th-place finish at the NCAA Championship. To get there, the team had to learn from past mistakes and steadily grow.
For decades, Duke students have taken classes over the summer to get ahead on degree requirements and explore new subjects. In recent years, however, summer enrollment has declined.
