Often, with so many club meetings, rush events, sports practices and all the other things in between, it’s not rare to find yourself having to skip a proper meal in college. Duke’s solution to that is equivalency. If you’re in a rush, you can simply exchange your Marketplace “swipe” to get a meal at Trinity Cafe or select locations on West Campus.

In Duke football’s double-overtime finish against Northwestern Sept. 7, quarterback Maalik Murphy played exceptionally in the two overtime periods. His first pass was a deep throw down the middle to wide receiver Jordan Moore, who hauled it in over three Wildcat defenders to tie the contest up. This huge throw shifted the tone of the game for both the Blue Devils and Murphy’s individual performance, showing just how far he can go as Duke’s starting quarterback.

On my way back to Durham after three heated days at Hopscotch in Raleigh, my driver gave me their thoughts on the North Carolina arts scene. “I feel like there is not much space and support in the area”, they said. “Artists leave for big cities for more opportunities, but I’m glad to know there’s a place where these artists can come back with the people here.” Bringing together countless North Carolinians, Hopscotch 2024 was a grand homecoming for many artists who shared their stories of growing up or living in the area.

In the early days of the semester, when my 14-hour jet lag made waking up at 5:30 AM a habit, I would wander around West Campus. I’d video call my parents, who couldn’t come with me to Duke, and pause to marvel at every carved archway and poised squirrel. I was equally in awe of the variety of campus food choices and surprised that many didn’t open until 10:00 AM.

Last year, Duke began a gradual transition from Sakai to Canvas as the University’s primary learning management system. Now completed, the move has elicited overall positive responses from faculty, though some identified a few persistent kinks in the platform’s utility.
