DSG approves no SOFC funding after senators leave early

Duke Student Government approved no Student Organization Finance Committee funding or budgetary statutes during its Wednesday meeting after a number of senators left early, leaving fewer than the 26 students needed to meet quorum to pass legislation.

Senators also heard two special presentations and gave committee updates.

The first presentation, delivered by Jillian Martin, associate director of the Student Affairs Office of Assessment, was a continuation of the Feb. 5 presentation on how to effectively collect data.

Senators also heard a presentation by Treasurer Connor Biswell, a junior, who detailed the process of creating budgetary statutes in continuation of DSG’s Finance 101 sessions.

Senators deliberated over a budgetary statute that would grant $826 to the Durham and community affairs committee to cover ticket and transportation costs for a Beetlejuice performance at the Durham Performing Arts Center.

During discussions over the budgetary statute, a large number of senators had left, leaving only 24 senators present, meaning that the senate could not vote on the scheduled $16,432.36 of SOFC or budgetary statute requests.

During committee updates, junior Tara Singh, vice president of the campus life committee, announced that the committee has been working on an airport transit program for spring break, following its Thanksgiving shuttle initiative.
