The women's and men's basketball teams both earned conclusive victories against Pittsburgh this week.

They say the devil is in the details. But in Durham, the Blue Devils are in the details — and the numbers:

The Duke men’s basketball team put on yet another defensive clinic Tuesday, limiting Pittsburgh to a mere 47 points in the contest. The Panthers, who average 81.6 points per game, had no answer offensively for the size, skill and defensive talent the Blue Devils possessed. The depth of the Duke bench was also a factor, as head coach Jon Scheyer was able to call on the likes of Maliq Brown and Mason Gillis to provide valuable minutes when the starters needed a break. With the defense firing on all cylinders and the offense shining in the right moments, the Blue Devils were able to handle Pittsburgh and get revenge for their home loss to the Panthers a season ago.

Redshirt freshman Aidan Wallace earned a second-place finish this weekend at the Southern Scuffle, a wrestling tournament held in Chattanooga, Tenn. Wallace, competing at 165 pounds, went 4-0 on the first day of the tournament, including a win against a ranked opponent in Domonic Baker of Campbell. The next day, Wallace defeated another ranked opponent before ultimately falling short in the final against 13th-ranked Gunner Filipowicz of Army. Although he did not win first place, his two ranked wins marked the first of his career, and he became the first Blue Devil to wrestle in the finals of the Southern Scuffle since 2022.

The women’s basketball team showed out Sunday at home, where it earned a 38-point victory against Pittsburgh, the largest margin of victory in conference play this season. It was a well-rounded effort offensively, with Reigan Richardson tallying a team-high 13 points. On defense, Duke held the Panthers to just 24.4% from the field, including 12.5% from beyond the arc. The combination of good teamwork on offense and toughness on defense made this contest incredibly one-sided, and the disparity in points was reflective of it.

Over the weekend, the men’s basketball team took on SMU in Dallas, where it won comfortably on the back of yet another brilliant performance from freshman phenom Cooper Flagg. Flagg was electric, going off for 24 points and 11 rebounds, while also adding two blocks and three assists. His ability to impact the game on both sides of the ball was critical for the Blue Devils to return to Durham victorious. The young forward earned himself both ACC Rookie of the Week and ACC Player of the Week honors, marking the second time he has won both in the same week this season.
