They say the devil is in the details. But in Durham, the Blue Devils are in the details — and the numbers:

Duke men’s basketball continued its six-game win streak with an 82-56 victory against Georgia Tech in Atlanta Saturday. The squad now holds a 2-0 conference record and a 10-2 overall mark. The game also marked head coach Jon Scheyer’s 400th game as a coach for the No. 4 Blue Devils. Since Scheyer joined the coaching staff as a special assistant in 2013, Duke has won 309 games and lost 91.
Notably, Scheyer’s record so far outpaces that of his predecessor, legendary former head coach Mike Krzyzewski, in terms of games won. Under Scheyer, Duke has played 84 games, winning 64 and losing 20. In his first 84 games as head coach, Coach K led the Blue Devils to 38 victories and 46 losses. Even comparing the two coaches’ first 50 games, Scheyer has found more success. Duke won 26 games and lost 24 in Krzyzewski’s first 50 games in 1982, whereas under Scheyer, the Blue Devils won 38 and lost just 12.

Duke women’s basketball had a disappointing night against South Florida as the 14th-ranked Blue Devils lost 65-56. At one point, Duke’s deficit stood at 23 points before the squad cut it to 18 at halftime. The Blue Devils, led by freshman forward Toby Fournier, chipped away at the Bulls’ lead in the second half, and by the beginning of the fourth quarter, South Florida led by a mere three points. The comeback fell short partly due to missed opportunities, particularly the difference in 3-point percentage. While the Bulls made 55.6% of their shots from deep, the Blue Devils made a paltry 23.5%. Although Duke outpaced South Florida in attempts from behind the arc, the Blue Devils went 0-for-5 in the first half, contributing to the pressure they faced going into the second. Combined with an ejection and two flagrant fouls that gave South Florida momentum in a hotly-contested fourth quarter, Duke’s lack of accuracy cost the squad from Durham a highly winnable game.

Duke wrestling defeated VMI 22-12 Sunday, winning seven matches to the Keydets’ three. With the victory, the Blue Devils are now on a three-game winning streak. Sunday marked the 38th time Duke and VMI have clashed, with the Blue Devils eating into the Keydets’ 26-12 all-time margin. Redshirt sophomore Connor Barket, who defeated Josh Evans 9-1 in the final contest, won his 11th consecutive matchup. Barket has gone 15-2 for the year and 9-2 in dual match play. Sophomore SP O’Donnell is also now on a four-game win streak, defeating Raymond Cmil in the matchup.

Duke men’s basketball’s clinical performance against the Yellow Jackets was balanced and relied on contributions from several Blue Devils. Four players — freshmen Kon Knueppel, Khaman Maluach and Cooper Flagg along with junior Tyrese Proctor — scored 10 points or more. Their combined score of 56 alone tied Georgia Tech’s, with Knueppel scoring 18 points — his second-highest this season — and tacking on five assists. The game was also notable for Maluach’s performance as he walked away with eight rebounds, a block and 15 points. Flagg, sophomore Caleb Foster and graduate student Sion James had at least four rebounds each, and a strong defense from Duke held back an attempted comeback at the end of the first half. The consistent performance on offense and defense helped the Blue Devils build a lead that forced the Yellow Jackets to switch to a zone defense.
