The Chronicle’s guide to spending Thanksgiving break on campus

Staying on campus over Thanksgiving break? The Chronicle compiled the modified hours to key campus services to help you plan a restful and rejuvenating break.

Students staying on campus are invited to a Thanksgiving dinner in Keohane Atrium Thursday at 6 p.m., hosted by all quads. The “Quadsgiving” event — which requires registration — will also feature puzzles, movies, music and a gratitude wall.

Housing

All students living in Duke-provided housing will retain DukeCard access to their dormitory and or apartment over the break. Housing and Residence Life staff will lock main apartment dorms on Tuesday evening, so students should make sure to have their keys or key fobs with them.

Students who need assistance should reach out to their RA on-call. HRL staff will be out-of-office from 12 p.m. Wednesday until 8:30 a.m. Monday.

Dining

Duke Dining will run a modified schedule throughout break.

Beyu Blue and It’s Thyme will be closed for the entirety of the break and reopen Monday.

Some locations will close earlier than usual on Wednesday. Cafe, Farmstead, Ginger & Soy, Gyotaku, Il Forno, JB’s Roasts and Chops, Panera, Tandoor, Sazon, Sprout and The Skillet will close at 7 p.m., two hours earlier than their regular closing time. McDonalds will also close two hours earlier than usual, at 9 p.m. Aside from the Nasher Museum Cafe and The Commons, all other locations will be closed.

On Thanksgiving Day, all locations — except for The Commons from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. — will be closed. On Friday, all locations will be closed, aside from McDonald’s and the Nasher Museum Cafe. All locations at the Brodhead Center and Bryan Center will be open Saturday, except for Gothic Grill and JB’s, which will reopen Sunday

Marketplace, Trinity Cafe and Pitchfork’s will also reopen on Sunday. Marketplace will be open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Trinity Cafe from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Pitchfork’s from 7:30 a.m. to 12 a.m.

All WU and Bryan Center dining locations will return to regular operating hours Monday.

Transportation services

Transit services will run on a modified schedule throughout the break.

On Wednesday, the C1 and Swift Avenue Shuffle will stop running at 9 p.m. and Duke Vans services will end at 11:59 p.m., with the last ride at 11:50 p.m. There will be no Duke Vans or any transit service available on Thanksgiving Day. One C1 bus and one Swift bus will run on Friday and Saturday, from 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m., and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., respectively. Transit services will run on a regular weekend schedule on Sunday.

Other facilities

On Wednesday, Wilson Recreation Center will be open from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Brodie Gym will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Nov. 27.

Both recreational facilities will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Friday. Wilson and Brodie facilities will reopen from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

The Student Health Center will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday. Then, it will remain closed for the remainder of the break, reopening on Monday.

Perkins and Bostock Libraries will close at 12 p.m. on Wednesday and reopen at 1 p.m. Sunday. Lilly at Bishop’s House will also close at noon on Wednesday, reopening at 9 a.m. Monday. Rubenstein Library will close at 5 p.m. Dec. 3 and reopen the following Tuesday at 9 a.m.

The Student Mailbox Center package desk will be closed on Thanksgiving Day and Friday, with plans to reopen on Monday.
