Taina Mair

Year: Junior

Height: 5-foot-9

Position: Guard

Last Year’s State Line: 9.8 PPG, 3.8 RBG, 3.6 APG

Game breakdown: Boston College transfer Taina Mair proved to be a skilled player for the Blue Devils last year. In her first season fashioning the Duke blue on the court, Mair averaged 9.8 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.7 assists. The 5-foot-9 guard's most remarkable act of progress last campaign was reducing her turnovers by nearly half from her time with the Eagles.

The Boston native’s competitive nature, ability to adjust to fast pace movements on the court and willingness to develop as a player are just some of the reasons why Mair is one of the Blue Devils’ most important players. Mair’s abilities were witnessed by all Duke fans as she started in all 34 games for the Blue Devils and ranked second in scoring. Additionally, Mair led the team in scoring seven times in the 2023-24 season, the third most of any member of head coach Kara Lawson’s squad.

Role on the team: Mair’s athleticism enables her to score, pass and create opportunities for her teammates on the court. As the junior enters her second season at Duke, she will most likely assume the starting point guard role, as she did last year. Mair has proven that her talent can always grow throughout the season and she continues to share a drive to win games for the Blue Devils.

With her goal of becoming one of the nation’s best point guards, Duke fans should not be surprised to see Mair as a competitive guard that adjusts to situations on the court fast and efficiently this season.
