Duke Student Government announced a permanent extension to game day parking, launched a new initiative to stock menstrual products in residential bathrooms across campus and approved over $25,000 in student group funding requests during its Wednesday meeting.
Committee updates
Junior Jackson Streit, associate vice president of the campus life committee, reminded students that Democracy Day will be held on campus this Friday, a day before North Carolina’s early voting period ends and four days before Election Day. Mayor Leonardo Williams is scheduled to speak at the event, which will also feature marches to the polls co-sponsored by Duke Votes and Duke’s Graduate and Professional Student Government.
Streit also announced that DSG’s game day parking initiative has been finalized. Students who are required to move their cars out of the Blue Zone during certain Duke Athletics events will now be able to access alternative parking spaces a full 24 hours before Blue Zone closes.
Sophomore Edison Chen, a senator in the equity and outreach committee, announced that menstrual products will be distributed to bathrooms in residence halls across campus through a partnership with Progress Period. He added that DSG is in talks with University administration to secure permanent funding for the initiative.
SOFC funding
Senators approved the following Student Organization Funding Committee funding requests:

Duke Swing Dance Club: $2,570 out of its requested $2,870 for its Nov. 8 “Night of Swing” event, covering the space rental but with $300 of its requested $1,800 funds for a jazz band cut in line with SOFC policy.
