The Chronicle’s 2023-24 guide to Duke’s resources for wellness and mental health

As midterm season begins, The Chronicle has compiled a list of Duke's available mental health and self-care resources.

The Student Wellness Center, located on West Campus next to Penn Pavilion, provides various support services for students’ wellness and mental health.

There are four departments in the Student Wellness Center: Counseling & Psychological Services, DuWell, Student Health and DukeReach.

Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS) offers “24/7 crisis intervention and mental wellness resources.” CAPS offers individual counseling, group counseling, workshops & discussions and referrals to community providers for students to access. To start services with CAPS, students can either call (919) 660-1000 or visit CAPS in person on the third floor of the Student Wellness Center on Mondays from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays.

DuWell engages students through various wellness experiences across campus. Through their Wellness Promotion programming, activities and classes are provided almost every day to help students practice mindfulness and reduce anxiety.

Students feeling stressed or in need of a recharge can attend events including guided meditation, yoga, creative writing and many other hands-on activities. Students can also seek help regarding alcohol & other drug resources and sexual health & healthy relationships.

Student Health offers a wide range of healthcare services for students, including physical therapy, transgender and LGBTQIA+ affirming care and nutrition services, many of which are covered by the student health fee.

Students are seen by appointment only and must call (919) 681-9355 before visiting Student Health. Same-day appointments are available depending on the demand and time of day. They are located on the second floor of the Student Wellness Center.

DukeReach provides non-clinical case management services including advocacy, intervention, referrals and follow-up services for students who are experiencing significant challenges related to mental health, physical health, social adjustment and/or a variety of other stressors," according to its website.
