March is almost upon us, and so is March Madness. And while there remains plenty of basketball to be played between Saturday’s bracket preview and Selection Sunday, fans received a sneak peek of where the Blue Devils might land in the field of 64.
Duke debuted as the No. 8 overall seed and No. 2 seed in the West Region during Saturday’s preview of the NCAA tournament bracket’s top 16 teams, as revealed by the selection committee and aired on CBS. The early results put the Blue Devils on a collision course with top overall seed Gonzaga for a potential early-season rematch in the Elite Eight, with Illinois as the No. 3 and Texas as the No. 4 seed in their region.
Auburn, Arizona and Kansas round out the No. 1 seeds while Baylor, Kentucky and Purdue join Duke on the No. 2 line.
Saturday’s reveal has become an annual tradition, beginning in 2017 and occurring each February. A lot can happen down college basketball's exciting final stretch to the regular season, but the selection committee's February preview has been fairly accurate in determining the tournament's top teams throughout the years.
