After doing some of our own research via taste tests, we determined the five most mouthwatering desserts that you can buy at the Brodhead Center.
Nutella Crepe (Café)
The warmth of the melted Nutella combined with the refreshing coolness of strawberries produces the ideal combination of flavors. You can choose sliced bananas as an add-on instead of strawberries or be audacious and try both! Sprinkled with powdered sugar, the crepe is the perfect treat to satisfy your sweet tooth.
Mint Chocolate Chip Gelato (Café)
You can't go wrong with a classic flavor like mint chocolate chip, and Café does this gelato just right. To the people who think mint ice cream tastes like toothpaste, just give this one a try. The mint flavor is fresh and not overpowering, unlike a lot of those artificially green frozen desserts. The gelato itself is creamy, sweet and has just the right amount of chocolate chips. Its light texture and crisp taste make it the perfect palate refresher after a heavy bowl of Il Forno.
Tiramisu (JB’s Roasts & Chops)
Take your tastebuds on a trip to Italy without leaving Durham! JB's decadent tiramisu holds layer upon layer of fluffy sponge cake, luscious mascarpone cream and ladyfingers soaked in coffee and rum. The generous coating of cocoa powder on top takes this dessert to the next level, packing a powerful punch alongside the rich coffee flavor. You’ll find yourself taking bite after bite as each mouthful practically melts in your mouth.
Mango Lassi (Tandoor)
The mango lassi is a quintessential summer Indian drink served at the Brodhead Center year round. This refreshing dessert beverage pairs perfectly with the spicy tang of a Tandoor dish. Practically a mango yogurt smoothie, lassi provides a great source of probiotics to improve your immunity and gut health. Its creamy rich texture makes it a very satiating dessert that fills your stomach. This dessert is conveniently transportable so you can sip on it throughout the day or enjoy it in one sitting.
Lemon Bar (Café)
While desserts at Café tend to come and go, this chewy bar has remained a staple for good reasons. The tanginess of the lemon curd deliciously blends with the rich and crumbly shortbread base, making for an ideally balanced dessert experience. If that's not enough for you, the bar is then liberally dusted with powdered sugar. This indulgence can be eaten on-the-go as a handheld item or savored with a fork and knife. Either way, eating more than one is easy peasy lemon squeezy.
Honorable mentions include the flourless chocolate torte at JB’s, the frosted vanilla cupcake at Café and the vegan brownie at The Farmstead.
