Dear Chronicle Staff,
I saw the recent promotional video about the planned renovation of Lilly Library. I want to say much the same: that Lilly is a remarkable institution with a high-quality library culture. If the renovations help the library staff and student workers to serve patrons in accordance with the excellence and welcoming atmosphere that Lilly has cultivated until now, then they will certainly be worthwhile.
To undergraduate students: not every college or university has a place like Lilly (no offense to the other fine libraries and staff at Duke or elsewhere). Spend time there, work there, most of all, TALK TO THE LIBRARIANS. They are professionals who can help you way more than Google can. I know what I'm talking about here.
To Lilly Staff and Student Workers (past, present and future): Thank you for everything you do and especially for the intangible and untrackable miniature things that are so important to Lilly culture.
To Kelley Lawton, Head of East Campus Libraries: Please accept, for yourself and on behalf of all your colleagues, my best wishes for the renovation and beyond.
