A tornado warning issued for Duke’s campus has expired, but a tornado watch remains in effect until 9 p.m.
“A tornado has been sighted or radar indicates a thunderstorm circulation that can spawn a tornado in the area near Duke’s main campus in Durham,” a DukeAlert issued at around 6:40 p.m. Thursday stated. The DukeAlert advised people to seek shelter and avoid windows and doors.
Another DukeAlert gave the all-clear at 7:19 p.m.
The National Weather Service stated that a “severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado” was seen over Hillsborough at 6:39 p.m.
Update: This story was updated at 7:23 p.m. Thursday to reflect the end of the tornado warning.
