Duke will have to play down a man Wednesday against Notre Dame, and perhaps further into ACC play as well.
Per a team press release, the Blue Devils announced freshman forward Jalen Johnson is out indefinitely with a foot injury.
When and how the injury occurred has not been disclosed at this point.
Johnson has had an up and down start to the season, posting 19 points and 19 rebounds in his debut against Coppin State but struggling since. He projects to be a lottery pick in the 2021 NBA Draft.
His absence against Notre Dame is all the more interesting given that the Fighting Irish have a number of lanky scorers and perimeter threats that Johnson likely would have spent significant time guarding. Duke is already unsure of its identity, and losing a player with the talents of Johnson does not bode well for the immediate future.
Following Wednesday's contest against the Fighting Irish, the Blue Devils have a near two-week break before the bulk of their ACC schedule resumes Dec. 29.
