Overview: The Eagles didn’t fare too well last season and they don’t look primed for success this year, either. They went 11-20 across 31 games in 2019-20, including a MEAC conference schedule that doesn’t feature many schools you would label as "basketball powerhouses." Coppin State finished the regular season on a three-game win streak, but that’s where the good news stops.
The team didn’t shoot the ball particularly well, nor did it rebound very skillfully, with opponents easily outpacing the Eagles in both key statistical categories. On top of that, Coppin State is attempting to rebuild a roster after losing three starters to graduation and transfer alike, with some key role players departing as well. It will be a struggle for the Eagles to put a team on the floor that can make a dent in the MEAC this year.
Team ceiling: Coppin State could pick up a few surprising wins if the handful of transfer students on the roster find their slots immediately and gel better than expected. The Eagles won’t win the conference, but they could make a run in the MEAC tournament if everything goes right.
Team floor: The team only picks up a few solid wins, staying in the single digits on the year behind little improvement.
