After much anticipation, head coach David Cutcliffe has announced the Blue Devils' starting quarterback to open the 2020 season.

Chase Brice, the transfer from Clemson, won the job after an offseason of heated competition between redshirt sophomore Gunnar Holmberg and redshirt junior Chris Katrenick. Brice ultimately earned the sport after “[making] plays at the highest rate,” Cutcliffe said in the press release.

"I could not be more proud of the three young men who competed for the privilege to be this team's starting quarterback at Notre Dame in the season opener," Cutcliffe added in the release.

Despite waiting until now to name the starter, many pinned Brice as the favorite to be Duke’s signal caller from the start. The Georgia native has experience under the bright lights, particularly when he filled in for an injured Trevor Lawrence and marched Clemson to a game-winning drive against Syracuse to save its national championship season.

The Duke faithful will be hoping for more of those kinds of performances this season.
