Some commitments are announced live on national television, with weeks of hype leading up to it.
Others come via an unexpected tweet on a Thursday afternoon.
Paolo Banchero, the No. 3 overall recruit in the Class of 2021 and the top-ranked center according to ESPN, has committed to the Blue Devils. Banchero announced the decision with a video on his personal Twitter account Thursday, choosing Duke over Kentucky, Washington, Gonzaga, Arizona and Tennessee.
The Seattle native is the second 2021 prospect to commit to Duke, joining fellow top-10 recruit AJ Griffin.
While listed at center on ESPN, Banchero is likely more of a stretch four. The 6-foot-8 big man can score from both the inside and outside with above average ball-handling skills and nice shooting touch from the perimeter.
The Blue Devils, while still lacking a commitment from any true guards, will likely have one of the strongest group of wings in the country next season. In addition to Banchero and Griffin, Duke is the favorite for 6-foot-10 sharpshooter Patrick Baldwin Jr., the No. 1 overall recruit in the country.
