As a an alum Class of 1987, I am extremely disappointed to see that Duke is sticking its hand in the CARES jar to fund the shortfall while thousands more small businesses go under because their stimulus money has run dry.
What about this $8 billion endowment the University is sitting on? Is this not a crisis worth the Endowment’s funding or only for new dorms and starting new campuses around the world?
Duke is not alone in this shameful money grab by the elite at the expense of the lower and middle who are the ones really getting hammered here. Looking at you too, Harvard.
Good luck getting parents to shell out the 70k for distance learning next year.
Sincerely,
Jonathan L Simmons (T'87)
