After some deliberation, the ACC has decided to follow the NCAA's lead.
Starting Thursday with the quarterfinals, the conference's men's basketball tournament will only be open to "essential tournament personnel, limited school administrators and student-athlete guests, broadcast television and credentialed media members," according to a statement released on Twitter. After NCAA president Mark Emmert's initial statement Wednesday afternoon, the ACC responded by stating that Wednesday night's matchups in the Greensboro Coliseum would continue as planned with fans in attendance, but that the conference would "evaluate the remainder of the tournament" and "more information will be forthcoming."
The ACC's most recent statement read that it consulted with the league's presidents and athletic directors to come to a final decision.
