The Washington Duke Inn will be closed for part of the day after a fire erupted in its chimney stack on the roof Friday morning, according to a news release.
The Durham Fire Department arrived at the scene shortly after the fire was reported, and there have been no documented injuries as a result. Duke's emergency personnel are also at the hotel to evaluate the damage and determine the best way forward.
Keith Lawrence, Duke's executive director of news and communications, wrote in an email late Friday morning that the "cause is still under investigation and extent of damage is still being determined."
Footage from an ABC11 helicopter shows charring marks on the building's roof.
Jake Satisky contributed reporting.
