With star point guard Tre Jones dealing with what seems like a minor injury, it is clear now that Duke will be treating his situation with an abundance of caution.
After missing the Dec. 19 contest against Wofford, Jones will sit out once again when the Blue Devils face Brown Saturday morning, the team announced Monday at 9 a.m. The sophomore has been recovering from a mild foot sprain that occurred in practice and is listed as day-to-day.
It seemed like Duke head coach Mike Krzyzewski was hinting at a return for Jones after the Blue Devils' most recent break, but now it looks like his floor general is aiming for a return Dec. 31 against Boston College in Duke's ACC home opener.
“If this was an ACC game, [Jones] would have played,” Krzyzewski said after the Wofford game. “He has a slight sprain and it’s better with this break to get well. He’ll be back and he’ll play right away. We’re not hiding anything or anything like that. He’s fitted now for a different orthotic and all that kind of stuff. It’s all good, it’s the toll of the season.”
Junior guard Jordan Goldwire is expected to start once again in place of Jones.
