Emily Schubert will look to finally get consistent playing time in her senior season.

Emily Schubert

Year: Senior

Height: 6-foot-4

Position: Center

Last year’s statline: 0.0 PPG, 0.0 RPG, 2.6 MPG

Game Breakdown: Schubert is the third tallest player on the 2019-20 squad, and the Tennessee native is known as a center with traditional skills in the post as well as the ability to run the floor. After missing her entire freshman season with a torn ACL, Schubert played a total of 11 games over her last two collegiate campaigns. However, the senior has yet to register a point or a rebound for the Blue Devils to go along with two blocks and an assist.

During the preseason Blue and White scrimmage last Sunday, the crowd saw a different and more mature Schubert. The veteran led the Blue team in the first half with eight points on 57 percent shooting from the field as well as tallying two rebounds and a steal. Coach McCallie praised her improvements after the game, describing her as “a complete team player”.

Role on the Team: Despite an impressive performance in the scrimmage, it’s not likely that Schubert will be anything more than a reserve in the rotation this year. The team returned all five starters, and it looks like the freshmen will get most of the minutes coming off the bench, while Schubert and sophomore center Uchenna Nwoke will fill the paint when needed.

Nevertheless, Schubert is crucial for the development and cohesion of the team as her veteran knowledge will be valuable for the younger players. At practice and in the locker room, Schubert is also expected to be a leader, taking on the role of team captain alongside Haley Gorecki and Kyra Lambert.

Projected Stats: 0.3 PPG, 0.2 BPG, 2.5 MPG
