The Black Student Alliance executive board recently had the pleasure of meeting with four candidates for Young Trustee. We all were extremely impressed with the thoughtfulness and range of experiences represented by the candidates this year. We are extremely grateful that we got to engage in productive conversation with all of them.
After deliberating, the BSA board has decided to endorse Trey Walk for Young Trustee. We were first struck by Trey’s ability to speak to the experiences of black students on campus. His love for Duke and for its students has been illustrated through his work with the Community Empowerment Fund, President’s Working Group on Community and Dialogue, and the Student Conduct Board. His work with the People State of the University has shown that Trey has a history of doing what was right, even in the face of adversity. His work to create a more livable campus for black students makes the us more than confident that he will serve the campus well as Young Trustee.
Signed,
Ashleigh Smith, Trinity ‘20, BSA Vice President, on behalf of the 2018-2019 Black Student Alliance Executive Board
