Letter: Duke must endorse the light rail

To Duke University and president Vincent Price,

I have been a resident of Durham since 1966 and have always appreciated the many levels of support that Duke has provided to the city that is Duke’s home. I am confused and disappointed that you would chose to take a position against the light rail proposal. Given the times we live in of climate change opposition, it seems critical that wherever educated people can take rightful stances to support efforts to protect our world, we must. There is no doubt that this light rail proposal will have significant positive impact on the environmental health of our city and area and I urge you to do the right thing and endorse this project. To do otherwise casts a dark shadow over your institution.
