Rayah Craig was one of the few bright spots for the Blue Devils in their opener against Northwestern.

Rayah Craig

  • Year: Freshman
  • Height: 5-foot-10
  • Position: Point Guard
  • Last year's stat line: N/A

Game Breakdown: Despite her small stature, Craig plays extremely physical. During Duke’s Blue-White scrimmage, the freshman led all Blue Devils with 12 rebounds, showing that she can outmuscle larger opponents. Craig demonstrated her nose for the ball in high school, as she averaged 6.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game in her senior season. The No. 20 point guard in the Class of 2018 has a soft touch in addition to her athleticism, and is solid from mid-range.

Role on the team: Although Duke lost two starters in the backcourt in Lexie Brown and Rebecca Greenwell, consistent playing time may still be hard to find for Craig. Redshirt junior Haley Gorecki is the only returning guard with more than 10 starts last season, but talented point guards Kyra Lambert and Mikayla Boykin will return from injury at some point during the season. Additionally, freshman phenom Miela Goodchild is higher on the depth chart than Craig, who will struggle to get much run as a reserve.

Projected stats: 1.2 PPG, 1.4 RPG, 1.5 APG

Stay tuned to the Blue Zone for our continuing player previews with freshman Onome Akinbode-James tomorrow. Previous players previewed include Sofia Roma, Jayda Adams and Uchenna Nwoke.
