After having met with the four, very qualified Young Trustee Candidates, Environmental Alliance is happy to endorse Bryce Cracknell.
He brings a unique message and perspective to the table. Each candidate brought up the importance of key issues such as tuition affordability and giving undergraduates the proper voice on the board. However, we felt that Bryce’s coverage of those issues as well as the incorporation of his passion for the environment, environmental justice, and campus diversity enabled him to stand out. We feel that his knowledge and dedication to Duke, the state of North Carolina, and the environment would manifest in his decision making and influence on the board, ensuring that these issues are among the highest priorities at board meetings.
We felt that he would provide a much needed diversity to the board, with his role as an activist on campus providing a significantly greater community perspective to conversation. His push toward greater diversity within the Nicholas School was also an endeavor which resonated with us, such a pursuit truly showcasing his emphasis on the importance of equal representation in all fields.
Overall, we feel that Bryce would bring a compassionate voice and sound arguments to the board. We have faith in him to promote such big issues as environmental protection, sustainability, and diversity without backing down. He is articulate, driven, open minded, and the sort of change maker who we feel can truly turn conversations in a much needed direction. We feel that the diversity of his background as well as his interests provides the greatest representation for undergraduate students as a Young Trustee.
Signed,
Elliott Davis, President of Duke Environmental Alliance, and members of DEA
