Jenni Owen, senior lecturer of public policy in the Sanford School of Public Policy, will become incoming governor Roy Cooper's policy director, according to Duke Today.
Owen currently serves as the director of policy engagement at Sanford and directs the North Carolina Family Impact Seminar, which gives briefing on issues affecting families to the North Carolina General Assemby.
“Jenni brings a wealth of knowledge in public policy but more importantly cares deeply about the people of North Carolina,” Cooper said in a news release. “She’s a collaborator who can look at our challenges across issues to find smart, strategic solutions."
Before coming to Duke, Owen was a senior policy advisor to Governor James Hunt and served as planning director for the Hunt Institute for Educational Leadership and Policy. She also directed the University-Based Child and Family Policy Consortium from 2008 to 2014.
“Jenni Owen is bright, talented and committed, and will do great work on behalf of the citizens of North Carolina,” said Kelly Brownell, dean of the Sanford School, in the release.
