Faith Suggs played fewer than 10 minutes per game last season but could step into a bigger role this year.

Faith Suggs

  • Year: Sophomore
  • Height: 6-foot-1
  • Position: Guard
  • Last year’s statline: 2.0 PPG, 1.6 RPG, 0.3 SPG

Game Breakdown: Although she is officially listed as a guard, Suggs has the size and athleticism to play anywhere from the shooting guard position to power forward. She only had 25 attempts from beyond the arc last year, converting eight of them, but that number only figures to climb as she settles into a rhythm when she sees more minutes. Suggs has also shown an ability to shine when the stage is the biggest, as she put up a season-high eight points against Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament.

Role on the Team: Suggs is an effective shooter and perimeter defender, but don’t expect her minutes to increase too rapidly. The return of Rebecca Greenwell, along with the additions of Lexie Brown and Leaonna Odom, figures to hurt Suggs' chances of being a key factor in the rotation. With that being said, her minutes should still increase from last year, as she can play a very versatile role on defense. Her ability to switch onto nearly anyone on the court won’t go unnoticed by head coach Joanne P. McCallie.

Suggs will need to prove herself to be more of an offensive threat in order to see an increased role on the team this year. But her ability to cause mismatches on both ends of the floor is extremely valuable and will exploit opposing teams as she becomes more polished throughout the year.

Projected stats: 4.3 PPG, 3.8 RPG, 1.0 SPG

Stay tuned to the Blue Zone for our continuing player previews with sophomore Crystal Primm tomorrow. Previous players previewed include Leaonna Odom and Haley Gorecki.
