Jack White
- Year: Freshman
- Height: 6-foot-7
- Position: Forward
Game breakdown: The only international freshman on the team, White flew under the radar before committing to Duke in March. The small forward is a skilled offensive player with range extending past the 3-point line, which was on display when he knocked down two triples at Countdown to Craziness last Saturday.
Although he is only a freshman, White already has experience against top competition in multiple international tournaments. Last year, he started all 11 games for Australia at the 2015 FIBA U19 World Championship, averaging 8.3 points and 3.9 rebounds per game. White's Victorian Navy team won the gold medal at the U20 Australian Junior Championships in February, and he put himself on the map with his performance against New Zealand in the 2014 Australian Junior Championships, when he poured in 38 points and added 13 rebounds.
Role on the team: White is a mature player with international experience that may be physically prepared for the college game right away. His versatility as a tall swingman makes him multi-dimensional, with the ability to defend multiple positions and rebound well. The young Australian's length and offensive skillset will provide a challenge in practice against 6-foot-8 freshman Jayson Tatum on the wing, and White would probably be contending for a starting spot at most schools across the nation.
White is unlikely to have a large role on the team this year, but he could bring energy in spurts off the bench and develop into a valuable asset for the Blue Devils in future years.
NBA comparison: A versatile forward that can come off the bench to provide size and shooting fits the mold of Ersan Ilyasova, a 10-year NBA journeyman with a solid career average of 10.6 points per game on 37 percent shooting from 3-point range. Like Ilyasova, White will not be one of the main focal points of his team, but he will spread the floor and be a threat to score wherever he is on the court.
Projected stats: 1.7 PPG, 1.5 RPG, 0.3 APG
