Heading into their ACC tournament opener Thursday against Virginia, two Blue Devils were honored with all-conference recognition.
Sophomore forward Azurá Stevens was selected to the All-ACC First Team, the conference announced Tuesday. Redshirt sophomore guard Rebecca Greenwell joined the ACC’s second team.
The announcement marks the second straight year that Stevens has been an All-ACC performer, as she earned second-team honors as a freshman last season.
Despite missing Duke’s last seven games with a partially torn plantar fascia, Stevens has contributed 19.1 points per game on 54.8 percent shooting. The Raleigh, N.C., native has also been a key presence on the glass and in Duke’s interior defense, collecting 9.4 rebounds per contest and leading the Blue Devils in total blocks.
In her nine ACC contests, Stevens, who is a John R. Wooden Award candidate for National Player of the Year, led the ACC in scoring and rebounding with 20.4 points and 10.1 rebounds per game.
Although Greenwell has had an up-and-down season and struggled with her shot at times during the year, the Owensboro, Ky., scored 15.1 points and snagged 5.9 rebounds per game. She also ranks fourth in the ACC with 73 made 3-point field goals and shoots 41.7 percent from beyond the arc.
Greenwell led Duke in its 93-57 rout of North Carolina Sunday, contributing a game-high 27 points and 10 rebounds in 29 minutes.
The Blue Devils hope to have Stevens back when they face off against Virginia in the second round of the ACC tournament in Greensboro, N.C., Thursday at 2 p.m.
