Duke Engineering Student Government formally endorses Tara Bansal for DSG president. Both Annie Adair and John Guarco demonstrated a great grasp of the challenges that the DSG presidential role faces in the upcoming year. However, Tara’s experience as Vice President of Academic Affairs and success implementing projects across our campus set her apart from the other candidates. Specifically, her efforts to bring back the New York Times readership program as well as her work to create “Living-learning communities” show that she is the candidate who will produce the most tangible and feasible results with both students and administrators.
Furthermore, ESG has been working on a pre-orientation program offered to incoming Duke students interested in engineering. In that sense, Tara’s academic goals align with those of ESG – her work building a pre-orientation program for Juniors, known as Re-Orientation, indicates the impact she will have in starting and maintaining this program. ESG believes a pre-orientation program would be an ideal beginning for the engineering undergraduate education, and Tara would be the perfect candidate to help launch the program.
Of most importance to ESG, Tara shows great willingness to help increase funding for Pratt’s twenty student clubs; this matter is of the highest priority, as our student organizations greatly need funding to complete their projects throughout and beyond the academic year. Duke’s engineering clubs have been incredibly successful on both national and global stages, bringing great pride and prominence to the Duke community. Tara understands the scope of these clubs’ financial situations; given her past experiences and connections at Duke, ESG believes she is the most qualified candidate to help reach a sufficient and sustainable solution to the funding issue.
Tara’s willingness to work with ESG shows her commitment to making Pratt a better place. ESG is confident Tara would be the best candidate to carry Duke forward as Duke Student Government president.
