It is with confidence that the Engineering Student Government endorses Jamal Edwards for the position of Young Trustee. All three finalists, Jamal Edwards, Wills Rooney and Max Schreiber are candidates with incredible potential and have done amazing jobs as on-campus leaders in their four years at Duke. Having met and interviewed each of the candidates, we feel that Jamal Edward’s swath of trustee level experience, Duke institutional knowledge and specific focus on how he would operate on the Board of Trustees has made him the best candidate to assist Pratt’s continued advancement and growth as one of the country’s preeminent engineering institutions.
Jamal acknowledges Duke as a constantly changing community of diverse individuals, and he sees the engineering community (both students and faculty) as an important addition to a diverse body. This understanding stems from Jamal’s various experiences as freshman class president, as a resident assistant for two years as well as with being part of Dukes and Duchesses. Jamal has experienced various key aspects of being part of the Duke community, and ESG believes that this has positioned him to best influence the Board of Trustees.
Jamal believes that Pratt needs to set entrepreneurship and new technologies as a strategic priority in the school's institutional advancement. As industry rapidly shifts and Duke strategically places itself as a global leader in engineering, this vision set forth by Jamal would be of tremendous benefit to the current Pratt cohort and those to come.
ESG is confident Jamal Edwards is the best candidate for Young Trustee.
