The Blue Devils ended last season with just eight scholarship players on their roster as they cut down the nets in Indianapolis. That number was already set to increase with an incoming freshman class that included five scholarship players and one walk-on.
Now, that number is increasing again as Duke has offered Justin Robinson a full scholarship for the 2015-16 season.
Robinson—the son of NBA legend David Robinson—was previously slated to be a walk-on as part of the Blue Devils’ incoming freshman class. Duke now welcomes six rookies to campus for the 2015-16 campaign and has 11 players on scholarship overall.
The 6-foot-8, 185-pound power forward will join Derryck Thornton, Brandon Ingram, Luke Kennard, Chase Jeter and Antonio Vrankovic to comprise the Blue Devils’ Class of 2015. All major recruiting outlets have Duke’s incoming class ranked No. 1 in the nation at this point in the recruiting process, a year after the Blue Devils brought in four top-25 recruits in Jahlil Okafor, Tyus Jones, Justise Winslow and Grayson Allen.
Allen is the only member of last year’s quartet to return for his sophomore season and the graduation of Quinn Cook leaves four starting spots from last year up for grabs. Head coach Mike Krzyzewski consistently started three freshmen—Okafor, Jones and Winslow—for the first time during his tenure in Durham last season, and he may well match that number again when Duke takes the floor in the fall.
